Meet Blessing Etuk
Her Path to Success

Q: Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got started as a Virtual Assistant?
A: My name is Blessing Etuk, I am a virtual assistant and a trainer. I specialise in supporting C-Level executives with Administrative tasks, and project management. I started as a VA, when I worked for an online kitchen. I had developed a range of administrative skills by managing schedule, emails, and customer support. As I grew in this role, I took on more project management responsibilities. This experience gave me a solid foundation in many VA skills, leading me to transition into a more formal Virtual Assistant role. Today, I also train other VAs in using essential tools and software, sharing my knowledge and experience with a growing community.
Q: What drew you to the virtual assistance field, and what keeps you motivated?
A: What drew me into the VA field was the flexibility and independence it offered, along with the chance to build on the skills I gained while working for an online kitchen. As a virtual assistant I discovered how much I enjoyed these tasks and the satisfaction that came with helping others stay organised and productive.
What keeps me motivated is the constant opportunity for growth and learning. Each client and project brings unique challenges, allowing me to adapt and improve. Plus, I find it rewarding to support others in achieving their goals. This combination of continuous growth and making a real impact keeps me passionate about my work in the VA field.
Q: What has been the most challenging part of your VA journey, and how did you overcome it?
A: The most challenging part of my VA journey has been managing the steep learning curve involved in handling different tasks and adapting to each client’s unique needs.
Initially, balancing multiple roles like scheduling to email management to project management, felt overwhelming, especially as every client had different expectations and preferred tools.
I overcame this by investing in continuous learning and staying organised. I pursued certifications in virtual assistant skills and familiarised myself with various tools that could streamline my work. Over time, this approach gave me the confidence and adaptability needed to handle varied responsibilities efficiently, turning challenges into opportunities for growth.
Q: Can you share a memorable project that you’re proud of? What made it special?
A: A memorable project I am especially proud of is creating and managing a mock project community for virtual assistants. This initiative involved designing realistic, hands-on assignments to help aspiring VAs gain practical experience in skills like calendar management, email management, and CRM.
What makes this project special is the supportive learning environment it created. I saw members gain confidence, build portfolios, and prepare for real-world roles, knowing my mock projects were helping them succeed. Watching others grow through my guidance and contributions has been incredibly fulfilling, and it reinforces my passion for the VA field every day.
Q: Do you specialise in a particular niche or industry? If so, why did you choose it?
A: Yes, I specialise in executive support and mentoring aspiring virtual assistants. I chose this niche because of my journey, where I gained experience in executive support tasks like managing complex schedules, handling high-volume communications, and coordinating different projects. This background equipped me with the skills and insights needed to support executives effectively and inspired me to guide others who are starting in the VA field.
Q: What do you think are the top three skills every VA should develop?
A: The top three skills every VA should have are:
Organisational Skills, Effective Communication, and Adaptability.
These skills help VAs provide seamless support, ensuring they’re ready to handle a wide range of tasks efficiently and professionally.
Q: How do you balance your personal life and work as a VA, especially with a flexible schedule?
A: I do this through intentional planning. First, I set boundaries by establishing clear working hours to create a distinction between working hours and personal time. I also communicate these hours to clients to help manage expectations.
I also prioritise tasks and I use digital calendars to schedule both work commitments and personal activities.
Q: How has being part of a VA community helped you in your career?
A: The community has provided me with networking Opportunities, engaging with other VAs allows me to share experience and learn from one another. I also get support and motivation especially on days I don't feel like showing up and have also gained accountability partners. The Virtual assistant community has been instrumental to my growth.
Q: What advice would you give someone who is just starting out as a VA?
A: I'll say, define your niche, invest in learning, network and build relationships and have a professional Portfolio.
Q: What’s one thing you wish you knew about virtual assistance before you began?
A: One thing I wish I had known is the importance of time management and organization. As a VA, I juggle multiple tasks and clients, so developing strong organizational systems and tools from the beginning would have made my workflow much smoother and more efficient.
